What is ugly?

This weekend I had the strangest experience ever, I got judged way too quickly for my liking and it wasn’t a pretty experience. Hey, I’m not bad looking at all, I might need to shed a couple pounds but I’m working on it, who doesn’t need to shed a couple here and there? All in all, I think I’m a pretty good catch, smart, independent, good looking, not to mention a trick or two I have under my sleeve. I began to think, why is it that people pass judgment on each other without even taking the time to get to know them? What ever happened to taking a little time to get to know someone and discover their inner beauty?

The Dailai Lama once said “youngsters these days fall in love due to external attraction, which will eventually wear off, and this leaving them with the inevitable focus on the inner ugliness”. But what is ugly? Is ugly to be fat, have acne, walk funny or wear glasses? Isn’t it better to put aside how people look and focus on who they are and what they can provide in a friendship/relationship? Lets be realistic here and say that boy/girl intimacy requires that “click”, the chemistry, we can all we agree on that, there is no “switch” that can make you feel attracted to someone in order to have sex. But let’s be more general, must we always pass judgment so quickly? Read the rest of this entry »

EARTH DAY and yes, more words from the Dalai Lama, need to get myself in tune with good vibes.

The Dalai Lama gives his thought about Relationships:

The need for simple human to human relationships is becoming increasingly urgent

Today the world is smaller and more interdependent. One nations problems can no longer be solved by itself completely.

Thus, without a sense of universal responsibility, our very survival becomes threatened.

Basically, universal responsibility is feeling for other people’s suffering just as we feel our own.

We must recognize that all beings want the same thing that we want.

It is the realization that even our enemy is entirely motivated by the quest for happiness.

This is the way to achieve a true understanding, unfettered by artificial consideration

More great words from the Dalai Lama I wish I could practice a lot better than I post.

“I believe that the very purpose of life is to be happy. From the very core of our being, we desire contentment. In my own limited experience I have found that the more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of well-being cultivating a close, warmhearted feeling for others automatically puts the mind at ease. It helps remove whatever fears or insecurities we may have and gives us the strength to cope with any obstacles we encounter. It is the principal source of success in life. Since we are not solely material creatures, it is a mistake to place all our hopes for happiness on external development alone. The key is to develop inner peace.”

Wise words from the Dailai Lama

Consider the following.

We humans are social beings.

We come into the world as the result of others actions.

Whether we like it or not, there is hardly a moment of our lives when we do not benefit from others activities.

For this reason, it is hardly surprising that most of our happiness arises in the context of our relationships with others.
